Slice of Life - week 6

You are more than welcome to submit your Slice of Life story on any or all of the following prompts even though they are from a past week post. As a writer, I know I do my best writing when I write about a prompt that “gets to me” instead of forcing a write on a specific prompt during a specific time frame.

Slice of Life choices for the week of April 27, 2008 were:

1. Family vacation.

2. Family heirloom.

3. Community service.

Once you have posted your Slice of Life Sunday story on your blog, come back and leave a comment with the url to your post. My true desire is for each of us to harvest wisdom from both the joy of reliving the good memories in our lives and the strength gained from gleening what we can from the not-so-good memories and then putting them away for good.

Wisdom is the daughter of experience. ~ Leonardo da Vinci

Hello! I’m new at this, but I enjoyed answering this prompt! Mine is on a silly family heirloom. Looking forward to seeing what else rolls in! - Kim

~~Hi Kim and Welcome to Slice of Life Sunday. I tried to visit your site but it will not come up for me. Blogger says it is not a working address. Please copy the url of your post and leave it in another comment. I am anxious to read about your family heirloom. Cricket

I immediately thought of this slice of my life while posting this week’s prompts. I hope you will be amused by my debut to community service.

Although I can’t do this today (Sunday) I am looking forward to posting tomorrow. I’m glad to see Mr. Linky up….I believe it will help with participation ;) I think this meme and it’s purpose is a great idea.

~~Hi Danielle - Thank you for stopping by and I look forward to reading your Slice of Life. Cricket

This was my first “slice of life.” I wrote about family heirlooms. I hope I did it right. Even if I didn’t, I know my siblings will enjoy reading it. http://redpens-diapers.blogspot.com/2008/04/slice-of-life-family-heirloom.html/ PS. Mister Linky isn’t working right.

~~Hi Cheryl and Welcome to Slice of Life. I loved reading your slice of life. I chose the prompt of family heirloom because I too covet certain pieces of family memories. I believe the value of a family heirloom is not weighed in monetary value but rather in memory value. Sometimes family pieces can carry a very high monetary value and heirs are tempted to sell. For me, it would be like selling a piece of my soul - and I see by your story I am not the only one who feels this way. Cricket

PS: I have been in conversation with “Mr Linky” and hope to have this fixed soon.

Ok, this is my 2nd attempt!

~~Ahh…there you are! What an interesting family heirloom. I will be fun to see how many bloggers who read your post also say they made one of those too! It is a piece of Americana for sure! Cricket

Hello! I tried posting with the mr. linky but it wouldn’t let me. This is my first time participating and I wrote about my favorite family vacation. Here’s the link:

    Thanks so much!

~~ Hi Joanne and Welcome to Slice of Life Sunday. I so enjoyed your family vacation. You have a very special family. Our family went to Disney World the very first year it opened in 1973. I have heard it has grown sizeably since then. I am hoping to go back with my grandchildren in a year or so. Cricket

Thank you Cricket. I’m glad you enjoyed it. :)

  8. Val Says:

Cricket, I have been slacking like mad for the past two weeks. I actually have last week’s prompt started (unexpected house guest) and should be posting it before the week is out.

I just wanted to say thanks for the kind words on my last blog. I’m hoping things will come back around between my friend and me, and it’s nice to hear of a similar experience from someone who has been there.

~~ Hi Val, So good to have you visit again. You are so welcome and I only hope I helped in someway. Good friends are hard to find, and best friends are priceless! Cricket

  9. Cricket's Hearth Says:

Well folks, I have another Slice ready for your enjoyment - I hope!
It is about a “priceless” family heirloom.

~~Thank you Mo for a wonderful story on what all mothers know - we may divorce our husbands and cease to be a wife, we may retire from our jobs and cease to be an employee, but we will forever be mothers! Such a wonderful Slice of Life despite the seriousness of its content. Cricket

Mine is up, family vacation! :)

~~ Hi Irishcoda, What a wonderful family tradition! Your pictures remind me it is well past time for a trip to the ocean. The ocean has such a calming affect on me. I can sit for hours and hours just watching the waves. Yes, definitely past time! Cricket
