Slice of Life – week 32

Welcome to Slice of Life Sunday –

a meme dedicated to preserving the accounts of events cut out of the lives of average people just like you from all over the word.

Wikipedia defines a slice of life story as “a category for a story that portrays a “cut-out” sequence of events in a character’s life.” It has also been defined as an “episode of actual experience represented realistically and with little alteration in a dramatic, fictional, or journalistic work.” (cp. Answers.com).

Like having ice cream with your pie, there is more to this meme than meets the eye – it’s a meme a` la mode! This meme has a larger goal in mind in addition to providing a venue for your desire to write. Please read About Me and this Meme to see how participating in Slice of Life Sunday could lead to further publishing of your writing. Then take a moment to read over the following options. Close your eyes and turn off your connections with the current world around you, and allow your thoughts to wander through the recesses of your memories. There you will find a life experience that you have been waiting to share or possibly need to revisit. Now write it. There is no need for fancy words, don’t run and get the thesaurus, just write the truth… a slice of your life

Slice of Life choices for the week of October 26, 2008 are:

1. An Act of Kindness

2. No Stone Unturned

3. Writer’s Choice – I am now seeking stories for our Thirtysomething era. What memories do you have of “being a real adult” in the adult world of marriage, homemaking, raising children, expanding your career, or just surviving.

You have all week to write your Slice of Life story. Once you have posted your Slice of Life Sunday story on your blog, come back and leave a comment with the url to your post. My true desire is for each of us to harvest wisdom from both the joy of reliving the good memories in our lives and the strength gained from gleaning what we can from the not-so-good memories and then putting them away for good. If you see a previous prompt you would like to write about, please do so and let me know.

Wisdom is the daughter of experience. ~

  1. I have a story fitting for the approaching Halloween festivities. This is a slice of my life in which I leave no stone unturned.

    Great prompts!

~~Hi Selma, it seems the older I get the more inclined I become to believe in the possibility of ghosts. Stories like yours and mine should give us all reason to pause. Cricket

~~Hi Brandy and welcome to Slice of Life,
oh how your slice of life took me back. I realize the toughness of these days, but it is true, they really are the best days of your life. The fun is in the journey, not the destination. Cricket

  6. Hi. I was in a writing mood today so I figured I’d swing over a take a peek. I wrote more for last week’s open subject seeing as how I haven’t hit 30 yet. In hind-sight I steered away from writing a slice of life and wrote some other type of prose instead. Oh well. What’s done is done. If inspiration hits again this week I’ll have to come back and see if I can write up a proper SOL to make up for it.

  8. I have been silent in this area for two months. I hadn’t realized it had been so long. However, maybe someday the things I’ve been dealing with will be part of another SOL. For today I have chosen to write about An Act of Kindness. You can read it here. http://adamswife.wordpress.zazzysmilies.com/?p=681
